Our Core Values set the boundaries of opportunity within which individuals and groups within the congregation can live out the mission and vision statements without having to get permission to act. It provides the subtle boundaries that informally sanction or prohibit behavior. These commitments proclaim our goal to "DO" ministry in such a manner as to embrace each value. Every ministry leader and/or team will apply them as a standard and measure of their process of ministry fulfillment. The key phrases are in bold and further explanation follows for clarity. Each value provides and proclaims how we are to act as we minister thus outlining the expectations that apply to our behavior and relationships.
Welcoming - We are committed to being a welcoming and friendly congregation. At all events we shall respect and cherish all God’s people and we will recognize that in them God is sending us new energy, new gifts and new challenges for ministry.
Integrity - We are committed to relating to one another with integrity. We shall seek to support, help and encourage one another in the fulfillment of commitments.
Relationships - We affirm that relationships with God and each other are at the center of our lives. We shall nurture them within a culture of Love, Appreciation and Trust (aka Christ Culture of Spirit of Hope).
Biblical Basis - We are committed to the Word of God and to God’s continuing revelation as a foundation for what we preach, teach and how we live our lives. We believe we are called here in honesty and in truth and based on Christ’s teachings we affirm our place as God’s people.
Human Rights - We are committed to justice that allows all people to live in peace. We are committed to work toward effective social change in human rights, freedom and equality for all God’s people.
Reach Out - We shall extend an open hand and open heart to people within our church and to those outside our community of faith. We will be a living witness of Christ’s teachings.
Community - We are an Inclusive Community with a unique mission. MCC was called into an existence at a time when no church would include Gays and Lesbians in their community of faith. Spirit of Hope still cherishes that spiritual activism and is committed to including and affirming all people who seek God in an inclusive community.
Cherish the Earth - As good stewards, we are committed to weigh decisions and plans with love, respect and appreciation of the earth, its wildlife and resources. Our goals as a community of faith is to reduce, reuse and recycle.
Note:The order of the values is not an indication of priority, rather all these values are equally embraced and applied to the methodology of mission fulfillment in our church. Revised by the Congregation, August 2007.
