Jack Boren - Administrative Assistant
Jack joined MCC in 1974 in Chicago, where he was living at the time, and has done just about every behind-the-scenes job in several MCCs since then, including positions as Business Manager and Administrative Assistant for a total of 6 years. At one point he spent the better part of a year supervising as many as 40 volunteers working on a major church reconstruction project. He has served as Treasurer on both the local level (for 4 years at MCC of Topeka, where he is a member), and for a total of 14 years in two MCC Districts (they were intermediate in size between our denomination's current Networks and Regions structures.)
Apparently taking the phrase "Jack of all trades" seriously, he's worked in a wide variety of jobs besides the church jobs mentioned previously, including the US Postal Service (sorting mail), three hotels (in positions ranging from janitor to construction laborer to front desk to Night Manager), two commercial property-casualty insurance companies (as premium auditor and underwriter), and as an organizer for the peace movement. After moving to Kansas in the late 1980s he worked for a non-CPA accounting firm with clients in numerous states, and finally as Controller at a private school until his retirement.
It appears that he has now failed at being retired, as in May 2014, he became the half-time Administrative Assistant at Spirit of Hope MCC.
Hobbies/interests include science fiction, travel (especially to national and state parks), and trains, both real and model. His spouse pastored churches in Chicago and Johnson County, Kansas for a total of 25 years.
