Scriptures: Exodus 35:20–29 & Philippians 4:1–8
“Neither Us nor the Church Are Perfect, But Both Can Be Excellent” We rarely strive for EXCELLENCE in our lives; instead we are too content with mediocrity; it’s just easier (or so we think). We must and can resist our tendency to be lazy in how we love, trust and appreciate our God and others. We must learn the difference between being "perfect" and embracing "excellence". ~ Rev. John Barbone, Pastor Emeritus

Scriptures: Psalm 37:1–6 & John 12:44–50
“Trust Isn’t Easy—in our Lives or in a Church!” In our modern world people don't know who or how to TRUST. "Trust God" is more than just a phrase. "Trust Others" is even more difficult. It's hard to resist the distrust when whole groups of people are discounted. Unfortunately, people, different from ourselves in race, religion, economic status and even age, are often viewed as a threat. ~ Rev. John Barbone, Pastor Emeritus Scriptures: 1 Corinthians 16:13–18, Romans 14:1–9 & Romans 14:12–13, 17–19
“Appreciation—A Gauge of Where Our Hearts Are Focused” APPRECIATION is too often assumed and too infrequently expressed. An appreciation of God, each other and others is an essential element of both faith and works. To be a devotee of Christ is to conquer the challenge of expressing our appreciation in a myriad of ways. ~ Rev. John Barbone, Pastor Emeritus Scriptures: Romans 12:9–16 & Luke 19:1–10
“The Enthusiastic Life and Church—Go Climb a Tree” ENTHUSIASM is the co-mingling of these three: energy, excitement and passion. Nurturing them and keeping them in balance, changes the thrust and the quality of life we enjoy and to which we are called to bring about good things in our church and world. ~ Rev. John Barbone, Pastor Emeritus |
