Scriptures:  Luke 6:35–36, Luke 7:11–15 & Luke 15:17–24
“The Compassionate Fruit of Kindness”

Kindness & Luke…Luke was both a Doctor and the author of both the Gospel that bears his name and the Book of Acts. His greatest gift to us today was to show the compassionate kindness of Jesus Christ throughout His public life. A powerfully compassionate fruit of the Spirit, Luke teaches as that Christ’s “kindness” holds lessons for all of us to read, absorb and learn. How “kind” are we?

19 June 2016 -  “The Mud and Muck of Life”

Scriptures: Genesis 4:1–9 & Matthew 3:13–17
“The Mud and Muck of Life”

Following in the footsteps of Christ, we are baptized into faith. Yet, for Jesus and I, stepping into the mud and muck of life requires us to hope and trust. When our eyes and hearts are washed clean, we meet people whose journey is dirtied and stuck. Rather than sprinkle them with water, we are called into the river of life, into the mud and muck to model what it means to allow the living water to wash them into new life. Sometimes those rivers include the tears of grief and fear, other times it can be the flood of life following the grey skies and thunderstorms of broken dreams and relationship. Following Christ isn't about watching from the riverbank but getting into the river.

12 June 2016 -  “The Quiet Fruit of Goodness”

Scriptures: James 3:13–18 & John 3:1–8
3rd Sun after Pentecost–“The Quiet Fruit of Goodness”

Goodness & Nicodemus…Nicodemus came to Christ at night; a Pharisee and a member of the Sanhedrin (the high court) in a quest to know the truth and follow his call to goodness. Once we know the truth, goodness follows; sometimes we have to move through the darkness to discover the light.

5 June 2016 -  “The Fierce Fruit of Self-control”

Comments

Scriptures: Philippians 2:12–18 & Matthew 11:11–19
2nd Sun after Pentecost–“The Fierce Fruit of Self-control”

Self-control & The Apostle Paul…Self-control is one of the most difficult of the Fruits of the Spirit to manifest in our lives. Rather than seeing it as the virtue that says: “I can’t, shouldn’t or ought not to do this or that”, we can see it as giving us power, strength and a fullness of our wholeness.  To do so we must see with eyes of faith; even in our blind passions, we are given light.
