Scriptures: Matthew 28:1–6a
“The 3 “R’s” of Easter” The Resurrection ends the story of the human life of Christ, but it also begins a story even more central to us: The new story is about “Life in Christ”. What does it mean? What is this new hope, this new human way of life that has changed the world? It’s hope-giving; it’s eye-opening; it’s a new way to live. ~ Rev. John Barbone, Pastor Emeritus

Scriptures: Isaiah 50:4–9a & Mark 11:1–10
“Vital Lessons: How Quickly We Forget” How determined we are to do God's Will; we are so sure of our commitment to Christ. Like those who were willing to provide the colt, willing to cheer, willing to throw their cloaks at his feet, we too proclaim our devotion. But just as they turned against him, so too do we turn in other directions when things change; so too we forget. How quickly we forget. ~ Rev. John Barbone, Pastor Emeritus Scriptures: Zechariah 13:7–9 & Mark 14:27–42
“Vital Lessons: Deny & Disappoint” The apostles and close disciples are confused, distraught and unnerved by what Christ is telling them, teaching them and preparing them for. They would be like "Scattered sheep" but what about the Shepherd - Christ? His humanity is in focal play at this point of the salvation story; seemingly friendless and disappointed that he has not been listened to and that even those close to Him seem to just not understand. They will soon have the chance to both see and learn. This part of Christ’s suffering is perhaps equally significant in our redemption story. ~ Rev. John Barbone, Pastor Emeritus Scriptures: 2 Corinthians 3:12–18 & Luke 9:28–36
“Vital Lessons: A Glimpse of the Glory” We often go through life with a veil in front of our eyes; that veil hides, the glory of God which is in our hearts from those around us. Like the apostles witnessing the Transfiguration, we are quick to create superficial evidences of our faith, rather than a real and humble commitment. But the teaching Savior gives us fair warning of the better and more appropriate way to manifest such glory. ~ Rev. John Barbone, Pastor Emeritus |
