“Christmas Eve–The Gift of Expectation Springing from Child-like Hearts” Human expectation and excitement about "something good" being just around the corner is a powerful motivator. Wrapped in fear of the disappointment, it nonetheless excites us. Perhaps it is our personal "star" that leads us to a place of consolation and excitement or it may change our lives from that point forward. ~ Rev. John Barbone, Pastor Emeritus Scriptures: Genesis 21:1–7, Hebrews 1:5–9 & Luke 2:8–15
“Advent 3–Gaudete Sunday—The Gift of Good Cheer Giving Us Joy” Laughter, smiles, parties and songs, all giving an outlet to what is inside us to come out and be shared. Permission to see the laughter in God's will and sometimes even in what we, or those around us do. It is a healing gift. ~ Rev. John Barbone, Pastor Emeritus Scriptures: Isaiah 40:1–2a, 3–5, Romans 15: 7–13 (including in it—Psalm18: 49, Deuteronomy 32:43, Psalm 17:1, Isaiah 11:10) & Matthew 2: 18–21
“Advent 2—The Gift of Comfort Giving Us Hope” Because we love we have (or should have) compassion or empathy for those in need and, in turn, others love can touch us with their caring and relieve our pain. Wrapped in inconvenience; yes. Yet it is another purposeful gift shared with us by God's creative power to give us shelter and comfort when we need it. ~ Rev. John Barbone, Pastor Emeritus |
