Scriptures: Genesis 22:4–14a & John 21:1–14
“Open Your Ears to Hear the Right Way” The Fishing Disciples meet Jehovah-Jireh - "The Almighty will Provide". We want evidences of Faith - there's no such thing ... It takes an obedient heart, searching for the goodness of God, searching for the goodness in others and searching for the goodness in oneself. We’ll never find it if we don't search for it. ~ Rev. John Barbone, Pastor Emeritus

Scriptures: Ezekiel 48:30–35 & Luke 24:13–31
“Open your Eyes to See Him” The Disciples on the Road to Emmaus meet Jehovah-Shammah - "The Almighty God is There". They were down and distraught about Christ's death; perhaps wondering about what it had all meant and whether it was all for naught. Sometimes we never recognize the Christ revealed to us in the hearts, the actions or the words of others. Our vision has been tainted, obscured and narrowed by the world in which we live. May we see “the Way”. ~ Rev. John Barbone, Pastor Emeritus Scriptures: Judges 6:20–24a & John 20:19–29
“Open Your Mouth to Speak your Truth” Thomas meets Jehovah-Shalom - "the Almighty God is Peace". It is with peace that Christ greeted the disciples when he appeared to them for the first time. After that, Thomas dared to speak his truth ... and he went from being absent to doubting to faith - a not uncommon journey for many people on the road to discovering "a better way" of life... Christ's WAY. ~ Rev. John Barbone, Pastor Emeritus Scriptures: Psalms 118:14–29 & John 20:19–31
“The Hospitality of God” The message this week will focus on the hospitality of God, specifically how hospitable God is to us in order that we might know God's love for us and the salvation given to us in Jesus. Jesus is so hospitable to Thomas in his disbelief that he is willing to let Thomas put his fingers in Jesus' wounds. Jesus himself is an act of God's hospitality: God becoming one of us in order that we might have life in Jesus' name. Jesus is God with skin, as one person has noted. As Jesus says in John's gospel, "As the Father has sent me, so I send you." We are now sent to be God with skin for others. This is part of what it means to be a resurrection people. ~ Rev. Keith Hohly, Bishop’s Associate, Central States Synod–Evangelical Lutheran Church in America |
