Scriptures: Proverbs 30:1–5, 2 Timothy 3:14–17 & John 8:42–47a
“In the Heart of Our Teaching Savior” In my opinion all the wisdom that we have journeyed together in prayerfully pondering are founded in three specific teachings of Christ. In them Our Teaching Savior tells us “who He is”, “on what foundation He teaches us” and “what we must do.” Christ gives us a roadmap to get from a place of imperfect humanity to the love, peace and joy which was, and still is, God’s intent for us. ~ Rev. “Our Imperfect Hearts—Thank God for Grace” Imperfect though we may be, we are given gifts from God; gifts that we may not recognize nor appreciate. Rick Warren tells us that God's grace has many forms and that it is our very imperfection that unleashes God’s caring for us. Further, that God “so loved the world” that Our Teaching Savior was sent to us both as a perfect sacrifice and a perfect lesson. How better to meet us in our imperfection and strengthen us in our walk upon this earth. ~ Rev. John Barbone, Pastor Emeritus Scriptures: Jeremiah 33:23–26, 1 Corinthians 15:8–11 & Matthew 8:5–13
“A Worthy Heart May Not Always Be Obvious” None of us have all the answers to the mystery of God’s love. Pope Francis proclaims with certainty that our worthiness is inherent in Christ’s redemptive passion and love for all people. No vice, no addiction, no questionable life action disqualifies us from God’s love. God tells us we are loved and looks for the space in everyone where the seed of goodness and worthiness can still grow. ~ Rev. John Barbone, Pastor Emeritus Scriptures: Psalm 107:1–9, Galatians 5:13–15 & John 17:20–26
“A Passionate Heart for God and Others” How do we relate to people different from ourselves? An interesting question, but not one as important to our spiritual journey as: How do we make people who are different from us feel? Maya Angelou powerfully and poetically affirms that we not only have a responsibility to not ignore others and but indeed to frame our missions and ministries in life with an affirmation love and responsibility. We are called by God to walk this life with those in need, with those in pain and with those in doubt, for indeed we may one day be also walk in those shoes. ~ Rev. John Barbone, Pastor Emeritus |
